When it comes to wearing and using contact lenses, the care and cleaning of your contact lenses is an extremely important issue.  In this regard, you need to be sure that you purchase the most appropriate products to clean, store and maintain your contact lenses.

Through this article, we provide you with some guidence that will be helpful to you in properly caring for and maintaining your contact lenses.  You need to remember that there are two very important goals associated with the proper care and maintenance of your contact lenses:

1.  You will ensure eye health by taking the time to properly clean and maintain your contact lenses.

2.  You will lengthen the useful (and healthy) life of your contact lenses by making certain that you follow appopriate care and maintenance practices.

The Confusion of Purchasing Products

Purchasing contact lens care products can be one confusing experience.  When you go to your local drugstore or grocery store you will find literally hundreds of products for the care of your eyes and contact lenses and quite often you will not know which ones are right for you.  It is imperative although for you to make sure and care for your lenses properly or you may get an infection, which can be quite serious.

Follow the Recommendations of Your Eye Care Professional

Although it is so easy to care for contacts today compared to the past it is also important to know which product is right for your particular lenses.  Depending on what regime your eye care specialist recommended, should be the one that you adhere to on a regular basis.  Don’t just buy a product because it is on sale since many products are not compatible with another product and may not be compatible with your contact lenses.  Always consult your eye specialist if you have any questions. You could harm your eyes and destroy your lenses.

Specific Contact Lens Cleaning, Care and Maintenance Products

Now, let’s take a look at the various lens care products and how they are to be used.

The first is saline solution.  Saline solution is to be used for rinsing and storing of contact lenses.  It may also be used with enzymatic cleaning tablets of cleaning and disinfecting devises.  Saline solution should not be used for cleaning and disinfecting your contact lenses.

Daily cleaners are for cleaning your contact lenses.  These cleansers are to be placed on the contact and in the palm of your hand and gently rubbed into the lens for the time specified to clean the contact lens.  Rinsing and disinfecting are not to be done with a daily cleaner.

For cleaning, rinsing, disinfecting and storing your contact lenses, a multipurpose solution can be used.  With a multi-purpose solution, no other products are needed.

Another product for cleaning, disinfecting, rinsing and storing your contact lenses is hydrogen peroxide and the hydrogen peroxide systems have a built in neutralizer that converts the hydrogen peroxide to water so that it won’t sting your eyes.

There are also some devices that are designed to both clean and disinfect your lenses and are either ultrasonic wave products or subsonic agitation machines.  These products work well in place of multi-purpose solution.
